230 FIFTH TO LAUNCH MANHATTAN’S BIGGEST
ONLY YEAR ROUND OUTDOOR ROOFTOP BRUNCH
52 Saturdays, 52 Sundays – Come Rain or Shine
230 FIFTH, Rooftop Garden and Penthouse Lounge, Manhattan’s largest rooftop bar will re-define brunch in the city on Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14 with the debut of its grand opening weekend Champagne Party Brunch, an inimitable version of the treasured New York tradition. By far the city’s largest al fresco brunch, it will be presented every Saturday and Sunday – 52 weeks a year, rain or shine – from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on 230 FIFTH’s verdant 14,000 square foot palm-punctuated roof deck with its breathtaking 360 degree views of Manhattan’s skyline. It will also be served in the fully enclosed 8,000 square foot Penthouse Lounge showcasing equally spectacular vistas through floor to ceiling windows. That expansive indoor space, coupled with the giant umbrella configuration that covers part of the Rooftop Garden and the high powered heaters that heat it, enable 230 FIFTH to honor its 52 weeks a year, all weather pledge and will make its high altitude brunch the only such experience available year round in New York City.
The new Champagne Party Brunch’s accessibly priced à la carte menu embraces 230 FIFTH owner Steven Greenberg’s “bigger is better†philosophy, offering more than 40 dishes – the vast majority of which are priced between $8 and $12 – in a cleverly cartoon festooned oversize format. The menu’s offerings are as exuberant as its
drawings of The Empire State Building garnishing a burger and an impish monkey perched atop a pile of pancakes. Witness “For Skinny People,†one of eight categories of dishes. It proffers a 230 FIFTH signatures such as “Liquored Up†French toast, with Grand Marnier, Bailey’s, mascarpone, maple syrup and carmelized banana for $12 and matzah brie, matzo mixed with eggs, pan fried and served with apple sauce, also $12 and declared to taste “much better than it sounds.†Backed by a quirky money back guarantee instructing diners to “see owner to get your money back,†with the caveat “the owner is never here!â€
More conventional dishes include 11 different kinds of egg and omelette preparations, including one boasting an intriguing East Coast oyster, cilantro, chili vinegar and bean sprout filling, also served with fries or the small salad. Among the seven entrée salads are the “Ultimate†Cobb and Malaysian shrimp with grilled pork, scallion, green mango and papaya, at $12 a nod to 230 FIFTH’s nightly presentations of Malaysian inspired small plates.
The exotic fare of Southeast Asia is also evident among the Larger Plates with short rib beef rendang, slow cooked beef, coconut milk, coconut rice and Malaysian herbs for $16 and the $15 nasi lemak, Malaysia’s national breakfast dish of curried chicken over coconut simmered rice topped with a slow, poached egg, sambal (a salsa like condiment made with a variety of peppers) and pickles.
Less adventurous palates will be pleased by filet of beef mignon, sliced with horseradish cream sauce , fries or salad at $19 and virtually all eight sandwiches such as a big BLT on oversized toasted white bread and the super grilled three cheese, gruyere, mild cheddar and mozzarella, each with fries or salad at $11.
True to its moniker, 230 FIFTH’s Champagne Party Bunch is big on bubbles – four specialty sparkling cocktails including the royal mojita, topped with bubbles, as well as six Champagnes by the bottle and the magnum. Even, in the interests of “bigger is better†a Jeroboam, Methuselah and a Balthazar choice!
Another 230 FIFTH first, the brunch comes on the heels of last winter’s introduction of a novel cold weather persona which facilitated outdoor rooftop reveling no matter what the temperature. A battery of high powered heaters, augmented by complimentary Snuggy-like oversized fleecy red hooded robes, blankets and a large selection of steaming cocktails made 230 FIFTH’s Rooftop Garden a cold weather hot-spot. For the 2009 -2010 winter season all these elements will make 230 FIFTH’s Champagne Party the only outdoor rooftop brunch destination in town!
The Champagne Party Brunch at 230 FIFTH will be served every Saturday and Sunday, starting June 13, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on the Rooftop Garden and in Penthouse Lounge. 230 FIFTH is located at 230 Fifth Avenue, between 26th and 27th Streets. For more information and call 212-725-4300 or visit
