A Taste of Italy in the Heart of Manhattan
In October 2004, the Livanos Family, owners of Oceana and Molyvos restaurants in midtown Manhattan, opened their seventh restaurant, Abboccato. Since opening, Abboccato has brought true Italian cuisine to the heart of Manhattan. The 75-seat restaurant serves true and time-honored Italian recipes elevated through the talent and techniques of its chefs, and features a multitude of Italian products and ingredients.

Leading the culinary charge is chef/partner Jim Botsacos, who is also the chef/partner at Molyvos. Chef Botsacos calls upon his life and career experience to prepare the highest quality, most flavorful Italian food possible. At Abboccato, Botsacos mixes tradition with sophistication to create dishes that are as innovative as they are comforting. Using simple, fresh ingredients, he and chef de cuisine Jake Addeo have created an ever-changing, seasonal menu that brings the true taste of Italy to diners.
Italian Chef de Cuisine Jake Addeo
has spent many years studying and preparing food in accordance with the true art of Italian cooking. His goal: to preserve the flavors of true Italian cuisine.
For starters, Marinated Sardines (Served with Puntarelle, Grilled Ramps, Tuscan Bread Strips and Creamy Licorice Vinaigrette), Affettati Misti (Thinly Sliced Imported Italian Meats, Served with Gnocco Fritto) and House Preserved Yellowfin Tuna (Served with Italian Celery, Cranberry Beans, Radish, Preserved Lemon and Sherry Vinaigrette) are among the tantalizing choices. Plentiful pastas fill out the Primi Piatti options and fresh Soft Shell Crabs, Veal Cheeks, Lamb Chops, Nova Scotia Halibut and even Veal Sweetbreads make up the savory Secondi Piatti list. Chef’s 6-course Pasta tasting ($55) and Pre-theater menus ($38) compliment any occasion.
In addition to the savory Italian cuisine, Abboccato’s dessert menu from Revital Melech allows diners to end their meal as elegantly as they started it. As head pastry chef, Melech combines her culinary experience, Israeli background and natural feminine instinct to create a dessert menu that showcases her unique style. Her menu features inventive Italian desserts, such as her Mascarpone Cheese Cake, served with Saffron Mousse, Italian Honey Sorbet, and Blood Orange-Pink Peppercorn Sauce, that balance simple ingredients with unexpected, modern flavors that evoke her Mediterranean background. Melech believes that "the first bite is taken with the eyes" and uses this philosophy to make her dishes as visually captivating as they are flavorful.
Abboccato also offers the lovely Terrazza, which opens its windows onto the street in warm weather and is the perfect place to enjoy an authentic Italian meal.
The restaurant is open for breakfast Sunday through Saturday 6:30-10:30AM, lunch Monday - Saturday 12:00-3:00 PM and dinner Sunday 12:00-10:00 PM, Monday 5:30-10:00 PM, Tuesday-Thursday 5:30-11:00 PM, Friday 5:30 PM-midnight and Saturday 5:00 PM-Midnight.
What to order: For starters, choose traditional polenta-crusted crispy mixed seafood or a light and lovely seasonal white peach salad. Pasta is king and includes guitar-string-cut spaghetti, sauced with clams, Italian bacon and cherry tomatoes. Equally delightful was half moon pasta, filled with beets and sweet Gorgonzola cheese, then tossed with butter and poppy seeds. Grilled lamb, crusted with ricotta cheese and classic veal sweetbreads with wild mushrooms were heavenly. Desserts offer a lush chocolate mousse and a divine pistachio ice cream sundae. The all-Italian wine list complements the food beautifully and service, as orchestrated by Captain Stan Lacy, is seamless and perfect.
