Region: Mendoza, Argentina
Mendoza is located in the western central part of Argentina in the region of Cuyo. A mountainous area at the foothills of the Andes Mountains, Mendoza has been regarded as the most important wine producing province in Argentina, accountable for over 80% of Argentinean winemaking. Mendoza’s high altitude valleys, each at different elevation and different temperature profiles allow for a multitude of microclimates. High altitude allows for intensity of sunlight producing fruit with thicker skins delivering extraordinary color, body, aroma and structure. The sourcing of Malbec at varying altitudes offers unique flavor and aromatic expressions in the finished wine.

Harvest Report:
The continental climate of long dry summers with cool nights and moderate daytime temperatures throughout the Province make for ideal growing conditions. Winter and spring were typical for the region as a cold and snowy winter preceded a dry spring with good weather conditions necessary for grape development; especially Malbec. The summer months were warm and dry leading to an exceptional harvest for long-cycle varieties such as Malbec. The climate and terroir in Mendoza allowed for the high altitude fruit to mature slowly resulting in well balanced wines of rich flavors and aromatic intensity expressive of the Malbec grape.
Winemaker Notes:
The grapes were harvested by hand in the early morning hours to keep the fruit at optimal temperature for fermentation. To allow for extraction of the deep, purple, violet color the berries underwent cold maceration for four days at temperatures not exceeding 10°C (50°F). This process further allows for the varietal aromas of black fruit in the finished wine. To preserve the fruit flavors fermentation occurred at 28°C (82°F). The wine was aged in 50% American and 50% French oak barrels with 100% of the wine completing malolactic fermentation.
Taste Profile:
Don Miguel Gascón Malbec is a full bodied wine with a deep violet color, showcasing flavors and aromas of blackberry, blueberry, dark cherry with a hint of mocha and layered with complex characteristics of spice and earth. The wine is elegant and rich in texture with a soft, deep, velvety finish.
Pairs well with grilled red meats, wild game, pasta dishes and chocolate molten dessert.
