Award-winning website, Punchin-dot-com, features the Walman Report & reviews of restaurants, travel, wine and theater. Run, don’t walk to Petrossian every Wednesday night, throughout the summer.

Robin Leach may have wished everyone “champagne wishes and caviar dreams,” but each week Petrossian restaurant will make Caviar Nights a reality. It began the first Wednesday in May, from 6:00pm to 10:00 pm, and every Wednesday night will be Caviar Night at Petrossian restaurant, located at 182 West 58th Street, at the corner of 58th Street and Seventh Avenue in Manhattan. A prix fixe of $95.00 (about 50 British Pounds or 61 Euros), exclusive of tax and gratuities, includes a sampling of Petrossian’s Royal Transmontanus and Alverta™ Caviars, served with freshly made blinis and the best fingerling potatoes imaginable.

The blini are huge, airy puffs of heaven, which a waiter dabs with crème fraiche and then adds gobs of caviar (the potatoes are served on the side). The caviar is wonderful this year and the generosity of the portions is amazing. An assortment of Petrossian’s Zakouskis (a variety of hors d’oeuvres) follows. They are miniature works of art, featuring mostly smoked fish, some wrapped in thin egg-crepes and toped with salmon and other fish rows. All this is capped with a bubbly Paul Georg Champagne and the exceedingly smooth Petrossian Vodka.

Service, under the direction of restaurant manager, Fabien Lepaitre, is as good as it gets. Managing Director, Dimitri Bourrigaut has brought Petrossian to a new high. A personal favorite, this is the restaurant I chose for a recent birthday. A house-made chocolate birthday cake was served before cookies at the end of the meal (one candel of course and mercifully no singing). I was amazed to learn that if a Petrossian restaurant patron would like to order a cake for 2, such as the gianduja cake that we enjoyed, it would cost just $24.00 or $12.00 per portion (it was enough for three and the best I ever tasted).

Caviar Nights at Petrossian Restaurant are definitely the stuff dreams are made of, and in this age of anemic dollars, offers exceptional value. Let those is search of the next new hot spot eat cake. We’ll take caviar any day. Reservations: 212.245.2214. Petrossian, 58th St. & 7th Ave., remains New York’s Parisian restaurant and rates A Major on the Walman ReportPetrossian-Vodka-Caviar 06
