Renowned New York Institution SCORES announces its re-opening and restoration, after closing for a short time. The legendary gentlemen’s club, made famous by notorious radio host Howard Stern, is once again playing host to a star-studded clientele that frequented the establishment in the 90’s.

Located at 536 West 28th Street, between 10th & 11th Avenues, the vast Chelsea space that once housed Scores West, has been extravagantly renovated to feature a restaurant modeled after the internationally acclaimed Roberts Steakhouse. Like its sister establishment, Roberts Restaurant will serve top-rated cuisine with a trendy twist to keep pace with New York’s gastronomic scene.

The new space offers 10,000 square feet of adult entertainment and accommodations for over five hundred guests. The visual focal-point of the club is a one of a kind proscenium stage framed by flat screen televisions. The refurbished SCORES also features Vegas-worthy light shows, multiple satellite stages and an LED paved runway, to create a high-tech, multi-media ambiance.

In addition to the nightly lineup of entertainers, each of whom are headliners in their own rights, expect to see edgier burlesque type acts and cutting edge performance art aimed at ushering the upscale gentlemen’s club into the next level of modern era of adult entertainment.

Executive Chef Will Savarese will be lending his classical culinary skills to the kitchen of Roberts. Will’s accomplished resume boasts celebrated names like Le Cirque and Aureole as well as a lengthy stint at Le Cote Basque and La Cremaillere, where he was the Executive Chef and helped garner a 3 star rating from the New York Times.

One sample of his steak to die for, the 29 day, dry-aged Rib-eye, charred, rare on the bone & sliced, could make you an addict. The best steak in town? In my book, without question. Also, you may have to hock the family jewels to pay the tab, but hey fine dining never comes cheap. The magical fries are also worth a visit on their own. Amazingly, appetizers like tuna tartar with quail egg and hamachi, Asian-style with preserved ginger, sliced peppers and wasabi are delicious as  as well. Service is way up there and the girls are young, fresh and food for the eyes.

Chef Will may look like a kid, but he’s a total pro. Even desserts are terrific, whether they be a sexy rice pudding or a stylishly deconstructed banana split.

“Our mission is to bring back all the elements that made SCORES famous: the glamour, the celebrity and that sense of the unexpected,” says Mark Yackow. Eventually, we plan to expand across the country, but for now, we’re focused on our hometown.

SCORES  features eighteen individually-themed private rooms, many with their own flat screens, sound systems and temperature controls, ranging from the whimsical Celebrity Rooms to the ultra spacious Presidential Suites, secluded on their own mezzanine for the end all in privacy and luxury.

The wine list is amazingly expensive, but this IS a club after all and you can stick to the excellent cocktails, or go for broke and order a bottle of the Mouton for . . . I remember it topped a thousand. There are special promos for groups that can keep the prices in line or for a treat, keep your eyes on the entertainment and enjoy. Remember: “Tomorrow may never come, For All We Know.”

FEINSTEIN’S AT LOEWS REGENCY

PRESENTS

AWARD WINNING SINGER/SONGWRITER

JOHNNY RODGERS

AND

THE JOHNNY RODGERS BAND

“POP… with pizAZZ”

JULY 17 & 18

FEINSTEIN’S AT LOEWS REGENCY, the nightclub proclaimed “Best of New York” by New York Magazine, and “an invaluable New York institution” by The New York Post, continues its 10th Anniversary season with the debut of award winning singer/songwriter/pianist Johnny Rodgers and the Johnny Rodgers Band in their new show “Pop… with pizAZZ” on July 17 and 18.  For “Pop… with pizAZZ” Johnny and his band will present tunes from the “new” American Song Book as well as timeless favorites.  The show – directed by Mark Waldrop and featuring Brian Glassman on bass, Danny Mallon on drums, Joe Ravo on guitar and special guest Tedd Firth on piano – runs at Regency Hotel (540 Park Avenue at 61st Street).

For his show at Feinstein’s JOHNNY RODGERS – described as “a combination of Elton John, Billy Joel and James Taylor all rolled into one,” by Show Business Weekly and "a first-rate singer songwriter with robust vocals and exuberant pianism" by the Chicago Tribune – will celebrate his concurrent CD EP releases Bound Together and Let’s Make A Date which featured special guest Liza Minnelli.  Songs will include Rodgers indie/pop flavored originals such as the touching “Father’s Day” ballad, the rally cry title track, “Bound Together” and the Beatlesque “Cry for Freedom.”  The show will also feature his new radio single “The Best of You In Me” and the Randy Newman classic “You Can Leave Your Hat On”, which Rodgers performed at many of Minnelli’s concerts.

JOHNNY RODGERS is a favorite in the New York performance scene.  Johnny’s original songs stimulate the sophisticated palette. He creates bubbly and romantic pop ballads, Taylor-laced melodies, and sultry jazz all stirred with piano driven rock.  In 2002, Rodgers marked his arrival to New York earning both a Back Stage Bistro Award for Outstanding New York Debut and a MAC Award for Best Male New York Debut.  Johnny Rodgers pleases not only with his original songs but also his boy-next-door charm and creamy, dreamy crooner’s voice. Liza Minnelli discovered Rodgers and brought him on as her pianist and guest performer for her world tours, and he recently debuted on Broadway in the Tony Award winning Liza’s At The Palace.

He and his band have performed at the Los Angeles Ford Amphitheatre, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the premiere New York City clubs; Arturo Sandoval’s and other Miami Beach jazz clubs; and many festivals like Festival Miami.  The 2008 winner of Billboard’s World Song Contest and the Jamie deRoy & friends ASCAP Foundation song writer award, Rodgers also co-wrote the song I Would Never Leave You which is featured on Liza’s new recording Liza’s At The Palace. Produced by the legendary Phil Ramone, the CD entered in at #6 on Billboard’s Top 10 Cast Shows sales chart in February.

FEINSTEIN’S AT LOEWS REGENCY will present JOHNNY RODGERS on Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18 at 8:30 PM. The shows have a $25.00 cover with $40.00 premium seats, both with a $25.00 food and beverage minimum. Jackets are suggested but not required. FEINSTEIN’S AT LOEWS REGENCY is located at 540 Park Avenue at 61st Street in New York City. For ticket reservations and club information, please call (212) 339-4095 or visit us online at feinsteinsatloewsregency.com and TicketWeb.com.

nger, songwriter and bassist Meshell Ndegeocello will co-headline Lincoln Center Out of Doors’ concert in Damrosch Park on August 7, sharing a bill with Raul Midón. She replaces Rokia Traoré (previously announced) whose scheduled U.S. tour has been postponed. Ndegeocello blends jazz, funk, rock, rap and soul as she continues to develop the “neo-soul” genre she is credited with sparking. In the early 90’s, Ndegeocello was signed to Madonna’s Maverick recording label, one of the label’s first female artists. She has collaborated with Lenny Kravitz, the Indigo Girls, Madonna, The Rolling Stones and Vanessa Williams, among others. Some of her most memorable performances were ones where she joined forces with Chaka Khan and John Mellencamp. Ndegeocello’s albums, which fearlessly tackle racial, sexual and social subjects, have not only gained her 10 Grammy nominations but also international acclaim.

Out of Doors also welcomes two new artists to the “Roots of American Music” closing performance, Mazel Tov, Mis Amigos on August 23. Sandra Velasquez (Pistolera) and Michael Alpert (Brave Old World) join The Arturo O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Sextet, Arturo O’Farrill, Music Director, arranger with special guests Larry Harlow, Andy Gonzalez, Irving Fields, Jeremiah Lockwood and The Antibalas Horns for this fusion of Latin and Jewish sound presented in collaboration with the Idelsohn Society for Musical Preservation (www.idelsounds.com) and Reboot. Velasquez is the lead singer of Pistolera, a group that combines Mexican cumbias and rancheras with pop, rock, and punk styles. The NYC-based band fuses various styles of Mexican music with a modern American twist. Alpert, best known for his work with the group Brave Old World, has been a champion of klezmer and New Jewish Music for decades. Alpert has collaborated with artists such as Khevrisa, Kapelye and Itzhak Perlman since arriving on the contemporary Yiddish scene in the 80s.

After calls for artists near and far, the guitarists and bassists have been chosen for Rhys Chatham’s A Crimson Grail for 200 Electric Guitars (Outdoor Version), which will be performed in Damrosch Park on August 8. Professional and amateur musicians from all over the country applied to perform this monumental 60-minute work by the pioneering new music/rock composer/guitarist originally scheduled to premiere at last summer’s Lincoln Center Out of Doors, but which was cancelled because of severe weather conditions. Among the guitarists joining Chatham and his section leaders David Daniell, John King, Seth Olinsky (Akron/Family) and Ned Sublette on August 8 are approximately 120 returning musicians from last year, and also current and former members of, and collaborators with: The Modern Lovers, The Jesus Lizard, Scratch Acid, Pussy Galore, Boss Hog, Lamonte Young’s Theatre of Eternal Music, Lester Bowie, John Zorn, Gamelan Son of Lion, They Might Be Giants, Opal, Cyndi Lauper, Prince, Reagan Youth, Akron/Family, Oneida, Parts & Labor, San Agustin, fFlashlights, Come, Stars Like Fleas, Bear in Heaven, Mates of State, Rogue Wave, The Natural History, Glenn Branca’s Hallucination City and Symphony #13 for 100 Guitars, Band of Susans, Damo Suzuki, Thurston Moore, Taj Mahal, Merzbow, Panthers, The Hidden Cameras, Vietnam, The Natural History, John Lee Hooker, Johnny Thunders, Guided By Voices, Town and Country, Joan of Arc, Bird Show, Silver Jews, Lambchop, XBXRX, Mike Watt, 7 Year Rabbit Cycle, Phill Niblock, Tony Conrad, Larval, Ya Está, Black Elf Speaks, usaisamonster, and Mono. Also represented are guitarists from the Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Berklee College of Music, Northwestern University Classical Guitar Ensemble, NY Symphonic Arts Ensemble, and the P.S. 180 Guitar Group.

ALL EVENTS ARE FREE and take place on the Lincoln Center campus—Damrosch Park, Hearst Plaza/North Plaza, South Plaza, Josie Robertson Plaza and Broadway Plaza–located between West 62nd Street and West 65th Streets, and Broadway and Amsterdam Avenues.

The Songs and Sass of Ethel Merman

DENISE COOPER AND NEIL KAHANOVITZ

PRESENT

KLEA BLACKHURST’s

“EVERYTHING THE TRAFFIC WILL ALLOW:

The Songs and Sass of Ethel Merman”

THE AWARD-WINNING ACTRESS AND SINGER RETURNS WITH HER

CRITICALLY-ACCLAIMED ONE WOMAN CONCERT

“We were watching a real talent, a performer we knew could delight us without ever singing a note that had once been

commandeered by Ethel Merman. We were not in thrall to the past: we were watching an interpretation

of it that had turned into something new.” – The New York Times

LIMITED ENGAGEMENT – 7 SATURDAYS ONLY

KLEA BLACKHURST – hailed as “an improbably terrific young performer” by the New York Times – will return to New York with her critically-acclaimed concert, Everything the Traffic Will Allow: The Songs and Sass of Ethel Merman for seven performances at the Snapple Theater Center (210 West 50th Street). The knock-out show took New York by storm in 2001 and has since been performed around country and in Europe. Accompanied by the Pocket Change Trio, Klea brings bright new interpretations of Merman’s signature songs such as “I Got Rhythm,” “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” and “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” as well as rarely performed obscurities including “Just A Moment Ago,” “I’ve Still Got My Health,” and “World Take Me Back.” Everything The Traffic Will Allow will be performed on Saturdays, July 18 and 25; August 1, 8, 22 and 29 and September 5. All shows start at 5:00 PM. Tickets are $35.00 and $45.00. For tickets please call (212) 921-7862 or go to www.ticketmaster.com.

Everything The Traffic Will Allow is Ms. Blackhurst’s loving tribute to the songs made famous by the quintessential stage personality Ethel Merman. Rather than a Merman imitation, Ms Blackhurst offers a paean to the great Broadway legend that serves as a potent and happy reminder of Merman’s sheer, undeniable importance to both the history of twentieth century entertainment and the iconic composers like Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and Jerry Herman, who wrote songs just for her. The engagement is a rare chance to experience Blackhurst’s crackling wit and powerful vocals as she performs her brilliant, savvy valentine to one of American theatre’s greatest stars.

KLEA BLACKHURST has performed with symphonies and orchestras and in theatrical productions across the county and abroad. Among many accolades, Ms. Blackhurst won the inaugural Special Achievement Award from Time Out New York magazine for Everything the Traffic Will Allow and its recording was named one of the Top Ten show albums of 2002 by TalkinBroadway.com. She has performed the work of composer Vernon Duke in Autumn in New York at Joe’s Pub and the Café Carlyle and teamed with Billy Stritch on Dreaming of a Song: The Music of Hoagy Carmichael, winning the MAC and Back Stage Bistro Award for their performance at the Metropolitan Room.

Her live CD recording of Everything the Traffic Will Allow – in addition to Autumn in New York and Dreaming Of A Song – are available through Ghostlight Records. Other recordings include Jule Styne in Hollywood, Lost in Boston IV and Unsung Irving Berlin.

Klea’s many concert appearances include the recent London Palladium presentation of Jerry Herman’s Broadway. She made her Carnegie Hall debut starring with Michael Feinstein in an evening devoted to the work of composer Jule Styne. In 2002, Klea made her London debut at Royal Albert Hall. She returned to London the following spring to debut Everything The Traffic Will Allow at the Greenwich Theatre. Klea’s theatre credits include Mama Morton in Chicago; the dual roles of Bernice/Marilyn in the Off Broadway production of Bingo; Nails O’Reilly Duquesne in Red, Hot and Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes; Debbie in the original Off Broadway production of Oil City Symphony; Rennabelle in Radio Gals Off Broadway; and the role of Hippolyta in By Jupiter in the York Theatre’s “Musicals in Mufti” series. On radio and television, Klea has appeared on “The Caroline Rhea Show,” “The Rosie O’Donnell Show,” “Sesame Street,” “Law and Order: SVU” and “A Prairie Home Companion.”

JAZZ STANDARD

JAZZ STANDARD Schedule

Changes for June & July

*Robert Glasper Trio has been cancelled. In its place will be the Joey DeFrancesco Trio.*
Thursday – Sunday, June 25 – 28
JOEY DEFRANCESCO TRIO

Joey DeFrancesco – Hammond B-3 Organ
Jerry Weldon – tenor sax (6/25-6/27)
Carmen Intorre – drums (6/25-6/27)
Paul Bollenback – guitar (6/28)
Byron Landham – drums (6/28)

When the powerhouse jazz organist Joey DeFrancesco takes the stage, he’s standing on some big shoulders: Father “Papa John” DeFrancesco was himself a legendary Philly-area organ player, and grandpa Joe DeFrancesco was a multi-instrumentalist who worked with the Dorsey Brothers. On Joey D!, his latest High Note album, Joey DeFrancesco (along with tenor man Jerry Weldon and drummer Byron Landham) applies his technical mastery and unerring sense of swing to tunes ranging from “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” to Gene Ammons’ “Blues Up and Down.” In a review of a recent show at the Jazz Showcase, Howard Reich of the Chicago Tribune notes “the sheer profusion of his ideas and the whirlwind nature of his finger work reminded listeners why he is the despair of uncounted jazz organists.” $25/$30 Friday & Saturday
