20 Free Performances in East River Park - Dance, Theater & Concerts

City Parks Foundation is pleased to announce a diverse line up of free concerts, dance and theater performances in East River Park this July & August. For the first time ever, CityParks Concerts presented by Verizon, CityParks Dance and CityParks Theater presented by Time Warner will be offered in East River Park with 20 free performances scheduled over 26 days — July 16 through August 10.

WHAT: 20 Free Performances in East River Park - CityParks Concerts presented by Verizon, CityParks Dance and CityParks Theater presented by Time Warner - July 16 through August 10

WHEN: Opening Night: July 16 at 7:00 p.m.

WHERE: East River Park, Manhattan
At the Grand Street Playground inside the park
Best accessed via Delancey St. walking bridge over FDR Drive
Turn south once inside the park, walking approx. 2 blocks from Delancey

Opening night offers three acclaimed performances held consecutively in three different natural settings of the park,

“Transports Exceptionnels,” “Dans le Jardin,” and “Contigo,” involving dance with a mechanical digger, a dancer’s interactions with elements of nature, and a performance by a master of the Chinese pole, respectively. Among seven additional CityParks Dance performances in East River Park are DanceBrazil (August 2) and The Francesca Harper Project, (August 3) both 3:00 PM at the East River Park bandshell.

The season at East River Park concludes Sunday, August 10, with an 8:00 PM performance of Borinquen Vive en el Barrio (Barinquen Lives in the Barrio), by TeatroStageFest in collaboration with the Hostos Center for Arts & Culture. This is the concluding evening of a full week of free CityParks Theater presented by Time Warner at the East River Park bandshell, which begins Tuesday, August 5, offering four dynamic plays noteworthy for their vivid performances, powerful scripts, and creatively staged productions, each exploring varied social and cultural dynamics of New York City life.

Additional highlights include Brooklyn indie rockers The Fiery Furnaces (July 17), Grammy-nominated rapper KRS-1 (July 24), and Puerto Rican salsa music icon Willie Colón with DJ Lucho (July 31), all performing at the East River Park bandshell as part of CityParks Concerts presented by Verizon.
