For one week only-February 5-9-jazz singer-lyricist Lorraine Feather and pianist Shelly Berg will heat up the Oak Room with their original show, “Fats Waller, Duke Ellington & The Jazz Age.” Lorraine draws on three of her CDs-New York City Drag, Such Sweet Thunder and Café Society, which feature compositions by Fats Waller and Duke Ellington with her own lyrics and vocals. The show will also feature such Feather-Berg originals as “Cicada Time,” “We Appreciate Your Patience” and “In Flower.” Shows: Wednesday-Saturday at 9, late shows Friday and Saturday at 11:30. Lorraine Feather began her career as an actress and vocalist with top 40 bands, then joined the group Full Swing, which toured and recorded extensively. After the group disbanded Lorraine concentrated on her burgeoning career as a lyricist. She garnered five Emmys for TV work, and feature film work includes vocals on the Dick Tracy soundtrack, and lyrics for The Jungle Book and The Princess Diaries 2, in which Julie Andrews sings “Your Crowning Glory,” her first singing performance in many years. Lorraine has been commissioned to write the libretto for Stefania de Kenessey’s opera, The Bonfire of the Vanities, based on Tom Wolfe’s bestselling novel.
Pianist, composer, arranger and educator Shelly Berg brings an extraordinary array of talents to the contemporary music scene. He is renowned for collaborations with vocalists Bobby McFerrin, Kurt Elling, Dionne Warwick, Lorraine Feather and Tierney Sutton, and is Dean of the University of Miami Frost School of Music. His compositions and orchestrations for television include CBS’s “A League of Their Own,” ABC’s “Fudge,” and HBO’S “Dennis Miller Live;” and for film Warner’s Almost Heroes and For Your Consideration and Fox’s Men of Honor. He has written for the Royal Philharmonic and the American Symphony, composed the theme song for the 1986 U. S. Olympic Festival, and has published numerous music texts.
