Jason and various experts will participate in provocative discussions regarding the sexual revolution following the emergence of AIDS and how the behavior represented in The Ritz (and at Studio 54) changed in the ‘80s.
Scheduled to participate are: Shelley Ackerman (comedian and former bathhouse performer), Richard Berkowitz (Author, “Stayin’ Alive: The Invention of Safe Sex, A Personal History”), Wayne Hoffman (Author of “Hard”, a novel that takes an inside look at gay men’s lives today), Ephen Glenn Colter (Editor and Contributor, “Policing Public Sex: Queer Issues and the Future of AIDS Activism”). All participants are subject to change.
JASON BELLINI (Moderator) is the anchor of “CBS News on Logo’s,” a new weekly half-hour news program aimed at lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) viewers that airs on the Logo channel, and online at Logo’s Web site, 365gay.com.
The limited engagement of Terrence McNally’s The Ritz, directed by Joe Mantello, was recently extended though December 9th.
The Ritz stars Rosie Perez (Googie Gomez) and Kevin Chamberlin (Gaetano Proclo) with Brooks Ashmanskas (Chris).
JASON BELLINI (Moderator) is a correspondent for CBS News on Logo, and is the first news anchor for MTV’s new channel for the LGBT community, which is available to close to twenty million U.S. households. In November of 2006, he was awarded “Journalist of the Year” by the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association. Before joining CBS News on Logo, Bellini served four years as a CNN news correspondent. During that time, he covered the world’s conflict regions, doing three rotations in Iraq. During 2003’s Operation Iraqi Freedom, Bellini reported as one of CNN’s embedded journalists. He reported, often from the frontlines, from his position with the U.S. Marines. Bellini spent months in New York covering the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks as the crisis evolved into an international war on terrorism. He later traveled to Central Asia to report on the story from Afghanistan. He also covered the Kashmir conflict from India. Bellini began his career with CNN in 1998 as a production assistant in the network’s Washington, D.C., bureau. In 1999, Bellini made his on-air debut with CNN Newsroom, now CNN Student News — CNN’s news program for high school students. That same year he served as a field producer for CNN International, covering the NATO airstrikes against Yugoslavia. One of his Kosovo stories achieved Medalist Status in the 1999 New York Festival Awards. In 2001, Bellini received a Gold medal from the New York Festivals for Jason’s Journal: The Holy Land, a program he produced on the Israeli Palestinian conflict. Bellini worked for MTV in 2000 where he served as part of that network’s “street team” for MTV’s Choose or Lose election coverage that followed the presidential candidates on the campaign trail during Election 2000. He also was a freelancer for writer for Washingtonpost.com and Channel One News. Bellini earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Georgetown University. He lives in New York with his boyfriend.
