This Greenwich restaurant offers a wonderful bar area for, eating, drinking or listening to the fabulous live jazz. Knickerbocker's main dining room has paneled wood walls, wood columns, ceiling fans and framed posters of old magazines, newspapers (one of the New York Sunday Herald March 22 1896), shows, caricatures of famous Village writers and a large grand piano. The comfortable half-moon booths and tables warm service keep Knickabocker's filled with a loyal neighborhood clientele, who enjoy old time dishes like the T-Bone steak and fried onion rings, but those in search of outstanding food, equal to restaurants like Gotham Bar and Grill and Union Square Cafe at half the price should check out Charles Kiley's kitchen. Atlantic house-smoked salmon on feather-light potato latkies with horseradish cream and a remarkable cooked seafood civche with adacado and papaya only prepare you for masterful pastas like mini handkerchief-noodles, morels, sweetbreads and asparagus, a grilled veal chop smothered with peppers and onions with basil-mashed potatoes and a marvelous grilled, boneless smoked pork chop with sweet potato fries and tomatillo sauce. The wine list is user-friendly and desserts whether white-chocolate bread pudding or a dense flourless chocolate cake in a pool of orange sauce are terrific at Knickerbocker Bar & Grill, 33 University Place. That's A Plus on my Restaurant Report Card. I'm J. Walman and all my reviews are available by computer on the internet by calling the Internet Exchange at (212)935-3322, that's 935-3322 and mention Punch In International Syndicate.

ANNOUNCER: Now the WNCN Restaurant Review!' Brought to you by Champagne Taittinger: One Of The Last - Great - French - Family-Run Champagne Houses. WNCN's Restaurant Critic - Jay Walman - says:'there's nothing like discovering really-good food in an unexpected place.
Jay: Wanting to catch jazz pianist-singer, Ronnie Whyte at Knickerbocker's, I thought I'd grab a fast bite. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine Knickerbocker's is a treasure of honest, inexpensive and delious American food. Fresh from the farm salads and vegetables; knockout T-Bone steaks - served Peter Lugar style (and just as good); potatoes baked without foil, and mashed from scratch; honest to god meatloaf; and a homemade bread assortment that will blow your socks off. Dessert? Fabulous chocolate pudding just for starters. Knickerbocker's at 33 University place - A Minor. I'm J. Walman for 104 WNCN.
ANNOUNCER: Jay Walman's Champagne selection is: Taittinger Brut La Francaise, a beautiful non-vintage champagne. The standard bearer of the Taittinger family. Jay Walman appears courtesy of Punch In International Syndicate.
