Argentinean Siblings Present
Quality & Value
High Altitude wine
mingles the stunning natural environment conditions with the well-adapted
varietals in the region. Andes Mountains climate, soil, altitude and wildlife
inspired the concept of High Altitude. The grapes that made this wine were
specially planted at high altitude in the Argentinean Andes to allow the bright
sunny days and cool nights to slowly ripen the grapes and allow the full
expression
of the varietals.
High altitude
viticultural areas capable of producing top quality, world class wines are few
and far between, but the area of Agrelo is not only one of the oldest
winegrowing regions in Argentina, it is also recognized as one of the best.
HIGH ALTITUDE 2004.
Suggested Retail Price: $9.99
Mendoza, Argentina
THE VINEYARD
The 12- 50 years old
vineyards, located in the famous region of Agrelo, Mendoza, benefit from ideal
conditions of this area. At 3,100 feet elevation, nights are cool, hang-times
are long and yields are low. The soils are low in organic materials and
irrigation is kept at a minimum.
HARVEST & AGEING
The grapes that made
this wine were specially planted at high altitude in the Argentinean Andes to
allow the bright sunny days and cool nights to slowly ripen the grapes and
allow the full expression of the varietals. Harvest is done by hand in half ton
bins.

Tradition and
innovation blended harmoniously when a spirited Don Miguel Escorihuela sailed
penniless from Spain to Argentina in 1880. Four years later, he purchased 42
acres of land that would become the cornerstone of an exceptional wine making
history. Don Miguel Escorihuela Gascón and his descendants became known in
Argentina for their consistently outstanding wines and for their unconventional
undertakings.
THE VINEYARD
The Gascon Malbec
2003 vintage is a combination of the best Malbecs from the Agrelo, La Consulta,
and Vistalaba areas. Agrelo, 12 years old, 3,100 feet elevation. La Consulta,
25 years old, 3,100 feet elevations. Vistalba 50 years old, 3,300 feet. Bodegas
Escorihuela Gascon sources fruit from its own vineyard in Agrelo as well as
from outside producers to add complexity to the blend. The winery has been
working with the same producers for decades.
HARVEST & AGEING
The Malbec grapes for
the 2004 vintage were hand-harvested in half-ton bins. Grapes were fermented in
100% stainless steel tanks using Malolactic fermentation techniques exercising
minimal filtration. The wine was aged for 9 months in 40% new barrels, 60% 2nd
and 3rd year old barrels. 50% French Oak, 50% American Oak.
WINEMAKER’S NOTES
This wine is made by
blending Malbec from the three best growing areas in the Mendoza province. In
these areas, the grapes develop sweet tannins, intense fruit and good
acidity/sugar balance, combining the characteristics of each area. Vibrant
purple-red, with intense aromas of exotic black berries and red plums. Terrific
with grilled chicken, BBQ or meatloaf.
