Glazebrook
Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2004
Producer Background: Glazebrook was established in the
mid-1980s by Ngatarawa Wines (pronounced Naa Taa Raa Waa), one of the earliest boutique
wineries in New Zealand. The company has a reputation for pioneering premium
grape and wine production from the dry, free-draining land on the edge of the
Heretaunga Plains, west of Hastings in the Hawkes Bay.
Wine Type: Dry White
Grape Type: 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
Country: New Zealand
Region: Marlborough
Vinification: Notes from Winemaker Alwyn
Corban: Several batches of Sauvignon Blanc grapes from different vineyards
in different sub-regions of Marlborough were fermented separately at low temperatures
to capture their individual characteristics and to maintain maximum varietal
flavour. Together these wines give a blend with completeness of palate
structure and an array of fruit characters. The wine shows good weight, acid
balance and has an intense, long fruity finish.
Tasting Notes:
Color:Pale straw with lime hues.
Bouquet:An intense nose of passionfruit, ripe tropical fruits and
gooseberry.
Palate:An intensely fruity palate with ripe tropical fruits and
passionfruit. A clean crisp finish with the classic Marlborough herbal edge.
A refreshing fruit driven wine, full-bodied with intense flavours typical of
Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. An ideal accompaniment to seafood, fresh salads or
vegetarian dishes (especially when incorporating fresh herbs)
Food Match: Sushi, salads, oysters, grilled
vegetables, fish, crab, Asian cuisine. This would also be a perfect match
for Indian cuisine.
